The Mecca Masjid, the larget of south India is few yards south west of Charminar. It is believed that the construction of this was started by Sultan Mohammad Qutub Shah in 1617 and the work continued during the rein of Abdulla Qutub Shah and Abdul Hasan Tana Shah and was completed in 1694 by mogul emperor Aurangazeb.The main hall of Mecca Masjid is 67 meters long, 54 meters wide and 23 meters high. The roof is supported by 15 arches, 5 on each side of the 3 sides. The colonnades and entrance arches are made of a single slab of granite. It took 8000 masons and labourers and 77 years to complete this structure!
