Golkonda Fort consists of buildings constructed by the Qutb Shai kings during different periods. They comprise huge walls, vaulted cellars, mosque, audiance hall etc. These buildings were decorated with floral designs, glazed tiles and cut-plaster decorations which are indicative of architectural excellance of the Qutb Shai style.
The Mecca Masjid, the larget of south India is few yards south west of Charminar. It is believed that the construction of this was started by Sultan Mohammad Qutub Shah in 1617 and the work continued during the rein of Abdulla Qutub Shah and Abdul Hasan Tana Shah and was completed in 1694 by mogul emperor Aurangazeb.
Sultan Quli Qutub Shah is the founder of Qutub Shahi dynasty. He ruled Golkonda from 1518 to 1543 AD. He migrated to the Hyderabad Deccan from Hamadan in Persia and having won the Royal favour, was inducted into the court of Sultan Mahmood Shah bahmani in recognition of his valour and devotion. The title 'Qutbul Mulk' was conferred upon him besides being appointed as the Governor of Telengana
